Spelling City

Students must log onto Spelling City for 15 minutes a night, Sunday-Friday, to practice their spelling/vocabulary. This will help them to better understand that definitions of the words.

Reading Homework

Students must read to themselves for 30 minutes Sunday-Friday. They are responsible for correctly filling out their reading log and having it initialed. Please sign only if you are sure your child has read. I encourage you to talk to your child about what they have read. "Dig in" for detail and see how well they can hold a conversation about the text. They will be held accountable to submit reading responses in class, as well as, periodic summaries.

Specials Schedule

We are on a six day rotation this year.

Day 2 - Music
Day 3 - Math
Day 4 - PE
Day 5 - Art
Day 6 - STEM

Grading Scale

The grading scale for 4th grade and beyond is as follows:

(A) 90-100
(B) 80-89
(C) 74-79
(D) 70-73
(F) 69 and below

Please remember to check ParentVUE throughout the week, for updated grades, comments, missing assignments, etc. In the past, your child has been assessed on a standards based report card. In fourth grade, students receive percentages on assignments. These scores are averaged to determine your child's grades. Please be aware there there is no correlation between the standards based report card and the traditional scale. Non-academic factors affect grades, such as participation, attendance, late work, ability to follow and decipher directions, precision to detail, etc. The grades that students receive, starting in 4th grade, will depend upon the degree to which they meet the communicated expectations.

Behavior Colors

In my class, students have the opportunity to move their clips up and down through out the day. All students start on Green, and I consider this positive behavior. Anything green and above, is great behavior and students are rewarded with megabucks which they can use to purchase certain cards. These cards include fun extra activities like being able to take your shoes off in class. Anything below a green is not encouraged, as it means students are needing to be redirected more then once throughout the day. The colors are in the following order.
Pink - Super Student
Purple - Great Job
Blue - Good Choices
Green - Ready to Learn (Students start here)
Yellow - Think About It
Orange - Teacher's Choice
Red - Parent Contact
