Oregon Trail Writing Activity

Tonight, you will brainstorm ideas for part 2.  Tomorrow, you will use your graphic organizer to write me a 5 paragraph narrative.  Click here for an article on the Oregon Trail.

Part 1
When pioneer families moved west, they packed only the most important belongings. Imagine your parents just sold your house and bought a covered wagon. You can keep only three outfits, two books, and one toy. Which items will you choose and why?
  •         Draw pictures of each object
  •         Include labels
  •         Explain why Each object was chosen
Part 2
Write a story explaining your experience on the Oregon Trail using at least five of these words: Missouri, prairie, wagon train, dog, sunbonnet, Indians, campfire, thunderstorm, river, Idaho.  You must also write 5 paragraphs.

You may want to answer some or all of the following questions:
  • Write in the form of journal entries (5 entries=1 paragraph each)
  • What is your first and last name?
  • Who is in your family?
  • Who are you traveling with?
  • Tell me about yourself
  • What are your dreams?
  • Where you are traveling from?
  • Why you are leaving the east?
  • What did you see on the trip?
  • How did you feel on the trip?
  • What happens on the trip?
Make sure that you are specific, and use real and made up facts.

Breakfast and Lunch

Parents, Cobb County Food and Nutrition does not allow the cafeteria to have
students charge their meals (breakfast or lunch or extras) for the last two
weeks of school.  In order to purchase lunch, it will be required that there is
enough money on your child’s account.  If they have money left at the end
of the school year, it will roll over to next year no matter what Cobb County
school they will be attending!  You are able to view your student’s balance at
www.mypaymentsplus.com as well as make a payment by credit card if
they desire.  Of course, cash or checks are always welcome! Please let me
know if you have any questions.

Field Day 5/13/16

Field day is finally here!

Tomorrow, is field day for 3-5 grade students.  Please have your child put sunscreen on prior to coming to school.  Students may wear athletic shorts and a t-shirts.  Our class voted, and we are going to all try out best to wear a BLUE shirt.  If your child does not have a blue shirt that is OK. Do not go out and buy a shirt tonight.  Also, please make sure your child brings a water bottle, as it is going to be very hot in the sun.

Today, during the k-2 field day, there was some confusion about lunches.  The flyer states "lunches will be provided."  By this, the school meant that students and adults will still be able to purchase lunch (there will NOT be free lunch).  Student lunches are $2.15, and adult lunches are $3.50.  Or, students may bring lunch, as long as it is not fast food (per usual lunch rules).

In short,

  • apply SUNSCREEN at home
  • wear a BLUE SHIRT if possible
  • Bring a WATER BOTTLE
  • Lunch is $2.25 for, students, $3.50 for adults.

We are so excited to run around, and get a lot of exercise!
