Behavior Expectations and Field Day

Dear Parents,

The past two weeks, students have had a horribly difficult time following the expectations and directions.  Due to the inability to follow directions, students have missed out on both learning opportunities and some of their recess time.  Recess has not been taking away, but it has taken students 10+ minutes to line up correctly, which cuts into our time outside.  Please talk with your child about the expectations, and how to follow the rules.  With that, it is important that you also make sure that your students understand the importance of being kind to one another.

With the year coming to a close, and due to recent events during a fire drill, and behavior in the classroom, cafeteria, and specials, students must now earn the privilege to participate in field day.  If students have to be talked to individually 2 times about following the rules in the school between now and May 12th, they will not participate in part, or all, of field day per my request and the specific behaviors displayed in school.  I feel that it is important for students to understand the importance of following the expectations, and that there are consequences for not following the rules.  If you have any questions about this, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Ms. Kraftschik

**P.S. A think sheet that is sent home, and not returned the following day with a signature, will count as 2 warnings.

More about Milestone

Dear Parents,

As you know, the Georgia Milestones start next week.  Milestones will be taken on the computers, and our testing time will be from 10:15-12:30.  Here are the days, and what test comes on each day.  You will notice that we do not have a science and social studies test in fourth grade.

Wednesday, April 19th - Extended Writing
Thursday, April 20th - ELA Part 1
Friday, April 21st - ELA Part 2
Monday, April 24th - Math Part 1
Tuesday, April 25th - Math Part 2

By working together, we can make sure your child's test experience is positive and successful.  Here are some suggestions that you can do to help your child succeed:

  • Make sure your child gets a good night's rest.
  • Have your child eat a healthy breakfast at home or in the cafeteria at school.
  • Send your child with a healthy snack (chips, cookies, and anything else unhealthy will not be allowed).
  • Make sure your child arrives to school on time.
  • Gently encourage your child to do their best.
Please signup for one of the treats on this Signup Genius.  Since our testing starts at 10:15, I want to make sure that all students get a nutritious snack before taking the test each day.  Please bring me the treat that you sign up for by Tuesday, April, 18th so that I can store it in a safe place.  All of your help, and donations are truly appreciated.

Also, please take a moment to write an encouraging note on the card and envelope I sent home on Friday.  Return this note to me, sealed before testing on Wednesday, and I will give it to your child the first morning of testing.  If you would like to write additional notes, for each day of testing, I am more then willing to take those, and distribute them in written form or print them if you email them to me.

Thank you for your help in making this years milestone a success.

Sincerely,
Ms. Kraftschik

Milestone Testing

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of another school year.  This also means the end of the year tests are getting closer with each passing day.  I have put together a few websites that I think will help your child review and be prepared.
We have found out that 4th graders will be taking the tests on computers this year. In class today I shared the website the state of GA has released for students to practice taking the test on the computers. The students need to continue going to this site to practice the different tools that are available for use on the test.

Spring Break, Testing, and More

Next week is SPRING BREAK.
There will not be school on April 3-7

Students will have some homework in their review packets (ELA and Math).  The milestones start on April 19th, so if you have not already, please start to study for the milestones over break.  There are great resources on my blog, and on Edmodo for the students.  I will continue to update Edmodo this week, but please feel free to contact me if you find that your child is having trouble with something specific.  I will do my best to accommodate your child's needs.  I will also have students bring home their journals (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies).  These are wonderful tools that have the standards and examples that we have talked about in fourth grade.

Here are some additional online resources that your child may use to practice for the Milestone.  Students will definitely take the milestone online next year so it is important to get them accustomed to internet testing.  There is a possibility that fourth graders may also be taking the test online this year, but more information is to come.  This makes it incredibly important that students get used to tying in the next few weeks, just in case.  If you have questions about this please feel free to email me at laura.kraftschik@cobbk12.org and I will get back to you after break.  I will give all of the information about testing as soon I know more.
